Overview
YouTube Learning Bar is a Chrome browser extension that enhances your YouTube experience with subtitle display, translation, vocabulary tracking, and community subtitle features.
Data We Collect
Stored locally on your device
- Extension settings and preferences (
chrome.storage.local)
- Vocabulary / word book entries (cached locally)
- Custom subtitle files you create
Stored in our cloud (Firebase / Firestore)
When you sign in with your Google account:
- Your Google account email and display name (for authentication only)
- Your vocabulary / word book (for cross-device sync)
- Community subtitle files you choose to upload (publicly accessible by other users)
- Editor permission status
Data we do NOT collect
- Your YouTube watch history
- Subtitle content of videos you watch (processed locally)
- Browsing history outside YouTube
- Payment information
How We Use Your Data
- Authentication: Google account identifies you for cloud sync and community features.
- Vocabulary sync: Word book stored in Firestore for cross-device access.
- Community subtitles: Subtitles you upload are stored publicly under your user ID.
- Analytics: We collect no analytics or usage data.

Data Sharing
We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties beyond the services listed above.
Community subtitles you upload are publicly visible to all extension users.
Data Retention
- Local data: Remains on your device until you uninstall the extension or clear Chrome storage.
- Cloud data: Remains until you request deletion.
Deleting Your Data
To delete your cloud data, sign in to the extension and remove your vocabulary entries from the Vocabulary Dashboard. For full account deletion, contact us.
